Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Narra X will undergo a rigorous screening and review process to ensure that they fit into the journal's scope and are of sufficient academic quality and novelty in the field. Narra X employs a single-blind peer review, meaning that the authors are not informed who the reviewers are. The process will be:

• Initial screening. A newly submitted manuscript will be screened by Assistant Editor for basic submission requirements and by one of the Editor-in-Chief for its conformity to Narra X Manuscripts that fail to pass the initial screening will be rejected without further review.
• Peer-review. If the manuscript passes the initial screening stage, it will be assigned to a handling editor, who will then send it to at least two experts in the relevant field to undergo a single-blind peer-review.
• First decision. A decision on a peer-reviewed manuscript will only be made upon the receipt of at least two review reports. At this stage, a manuscript can either be either rejected, asked for revisions (major or minor), or accepted. If it is accepted, the manuscript will be returned to the submitting author for formatting. The final decision to accept the manuscript will be made by the Editor-in-Chief based on the recommendation of the handling editor.
• Revision stage. A manuscript that requires revisions will be returned to the submitting author, who will have up to three weeks to format and revise the manuscript, following which it will be reviewed by the handling editor. The handling editor will determine whether the changes are adequate and appropriate, as well as whether the author(s) sufficiently responded to the reviewers' comments and suggestions. If the revisions are deemed to be inadequate, this cycle will be repeated (the manuscript will be returned to the submitting author once more for further revision).

Ethical Standards

All human studies should have been approved by the appropriate ethics committee and have therefore been performed in accordance with the ethical standards laid down in the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki. It should also be stated clearly in the text that all persons gave their informed consent prior to their inclusion in the study. Details that might disclose the identity of the subjects under study should be omitted. The editors reserve the right to reject manuscripts that do not comply with the above-mentioned requirements.

Publication Ethics

Narra X follows guidelines from Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in facing all aspects of publication ethics and, in particular, how to handle cases of research and publication misconduct. Narra X adapts COPE principle to meet high quality standard of ethics for publisher, editors, authors, and reviewers. As an essential issue, publication ethics need to be explained clearly to improve the quality of research worldwide. In this part, we explain the standard for editors, authors, and reviewers. Publisher does not have the right to interfere with the integrity of the contents and only support to publish in timely manner.

Plagiarism and Data Fabrication

Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. We define plagiarism as copying text, ideas, images or data from another source, even from own publications, without giving credit to the original sources. To ensure the originality, all submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism checkers Turnitin. Manuscripts indicated with similarity index of more than 15% may be rejected.

Data presented must be original and not inappropriately selected, manipulated, enhanced, or fabricated. This includes 1) exclusion of data points to enhance significance of conclusions, 2) fabrication of data, 3) selection of results that support a particular conclusion at the expense of contradictory data, 4) deliberate selection of analysis tools or methods to support a particular conclusion (including p-hacking). We strongly recommend preregistration of methods and analysis.

Conflict of Interest

For all type of submission. Authors must indicate whether or not there is a financial relationship between them and the organization that sponsored the research. This note should be added in a separate section previous to the reference list. If no conflict exists, authors should state so. See the details in Structure of Manuscript section.

Open Access Information and Policy

All articles published in Narra X have been peer-reviewed and are made immediately available worldwide (no embargo period) under an open access license. Under the circumstances, everyone has free and unlimited access to the full-text of all articles published in Narra X. Published materials are free to be re-produced (with or without modifications) for non-commercial purposes if proper citation of the original publication is given.

Article Processing Charges

Narra X is an open access journal and there is no submission fee for publishing Narra X. Currently, there are no Author Processing Charges (APCs) required until December 2023. After that, an APC of 250 USD apply upon acceptance. 

Waivers and Discounts

Narra X aims to effectively bridge the digital research divide and ensure that publishing in this journal is accessible for authors in developing countries. Hence, authors may apply waivers and discounts of the APCs on the basis of financial hardship. The request letter should be made by the corresponding author to Narra X (see Contact) along with relevant details (such as submission details and reasons for requesting the waivers or discounts). The decision on the request will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Authorship and Changes to Authorship

All authors should have made substantial contributions to all of the following:

1. the conception and design of the study, or acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data,
2. drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content,
3. final approval of the version to be submitted. Before submitting their manuscript and provide the definitive list of authors at the time of the original submission, authors are expected to consider carefully the list and order of authors.

Any addition, deletion or rearrangement of author names in the authorship list should be made only before the manuscript has been accepted and only if approved by the journal Editor. To request such a change, the Editor must receive the following from the corresponding author: (1) the reason for the change in author list and (2) written confirmation (e-mail, letter) from all authors that they agree with the addition, removal or rearrangement. In the case of addition or removal of authors, this includes confirmation from the author being added or removed. Only in exceptional circumstances will the Editor consider the addition, deletion or rearrangement of authors after the manuscript has been accepted. While the Editor considers the request, publication of the manuscript will be suspended. If the manuscript has already been published in an online issue, any requests approved by the Editor will result in a corrigendum.

Copyright and Licensing

For all articles published in Narra X, copyright is retained by the authors. Articles are licensed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License, meaning that anyone may download and read the paper for free. In addition, the article may be reused and quoted provided that the original published version is cited. These conditions allow for maximum use and exposure of the work, while ensuring that the authors receive proper credit.

In exceptional circumstances articles may be licensed differently. If you have specific condition (such as one linked to funding) that does not allow this license, please mention this to the editorial office of the journal at submission. Exceptions will be granted at the discretion of the publisher.

Reproducing Published Material from other Publishers

It is absolutely essential that authors obtain permission to reproduce any published material (figures, schemes, tables or any extract of a text) which does not fall into the public domain, or for which they do not hold the copyright. Permission should be requested by the authors from the copyright holder (usually the Publisher, please refer to the imprint of the individual publications to identify the copyright holder).

Permission is required for:

1. Your own works published by other Publishers and for which you did not retain copyright.
2. Substantial extracts from anyone's works or a series of works.
3. Use of Tables, Graphs, Charts, Schemes and Artworks if they are unaltered or slightly modified.
4. Photographs for which you do not hold copyright.

Permission is not required for:

1. Reconstruction of your own table with data already published elsewhere. Please notice that in this case you must cite the source of the data in the form of either "Data from..." or "Adapted from...".
2. Reasonably short quotes are considered fair use and therefore do not require permission.
3. Graphs, Charts, Schemes and Artworks that are completely redrawn by the authors and significantly changed beyond recognition do not require permission.

Obtaining Permission

In order to avoid unnecessary delays in the publication process, you should start obtaining permissions as early as possible. If in any doubt about the copyright, apply for permission. Manuscript containing materials from other publications without permission cannot be published in Narra X.

The copyright holder may give you instructions on the form of acknowledgement to be followed; otherwise follow the style: "Reproduced with permission from [author], [book/journal title]; published by [publisher], [year].' at the end of the caption of the Table, Figure or Scheme.

Archiving and Repository

A full archival copy of all publications is deposited in electronic format into PKP PN for long-term access. Authors are encouraged to self-archive the final version of their published articles into institutional repositories (such as those listed in the Directory of Open Access). For this purpose, authors are strongly encouraged to use the final PDF version published on the website.
